As a reminder, District 2 is Avatar: TLA/LOK. The tributes from this district are Kristina and Llama. If you want to help keep these two tributes from starving during the games reblog this to show your support!
How this works: A food product will be banked in the sponsor shop for each 250 notes that this post recieves, and will be used to keep the tributes hunger status up. This hunger status is ranked from “well fed” to “hungry” to “starving”. If a tribute becomes starving they lose one ticket. Then for every day (prompt) they remain starving they will lose an additional ticket. However, if their district has food banked in the sponsor shop the tribute will use that gift (instead of becoming starving), and no tickets will be lost. So this is very important!
There is no limit on the number of times, or the number of blogs that you use to reblog this post. So go crazy!
This post will be active from today (May 27th), and will be closed down only when both tributes from this district have died.

Response for Alice!
I think this video is very helpful in that the beginning of it quite succinctly defines public health for everyone who might be a bit confused as to what that means/includes, but I do think the rest of it is a bit vague and ambitious. The end of the film—where this whole “in one generation we can make our nation the healthiest” concept is stressed—confuses me. Healthiest…. in terms of what, exactly? Most of the examples given during the course of this hypothetical man’s life are strictly medical, but then we have “wear a helmet/seatbelt” thrown in without much detail and it seems a bit like a last-ditch effort to cover all the bases. Not that these things aren’t important, but someone who doesn’t know anything about public health might wonder how they fit in, exactly. That same person might wonder why some of the examples pertain to things we already implement—fluoridated water, for example. Again, these things are important to know about, but when everything else in the video so strongly leans toward this “prevent disease” message, it’s a bit confusing.
I LOOOOOOOOVE YOUUU

The Stories That Europe Tells Itself About Its Colonial History (via stay-human) This reminds me of something I watched, either a documentary or a news report, in which some Congolese ex-pats living in Belgium referred to an iconic parliamentary building (if my memory serves me correctly) and called it something along the lines of, “building of the chopped hands”. In short, they were outlining the direct link between Belgium’s “wealth” (I use quotation marks as I don’t believe that anything stolen is worthy of being called the wealth of the thief) and the heinous atrocities committed by Belgian colonialists in the Congo, in order for the tiny European country to steal and use the country’s minerals for Belgian profit. The NamibRand Nature Reserve, a private nature reserve in southern Namibia, has gotten the stamp of approval to become an official night sky reserve — a spot supremely suited for some of the best stargazing on Earth.
